SCI’s award-winning, ?agship publication delivers amazing hunting stories from around the world to SCI Members six times a year. SAFARI is a lavishly illustrated, perfect-bound, co?ee table-style magazine. Safari Times is the news arm of SCI, presenting monthly information of interest importance to the organization’s members and all hunters.

All applicants should demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, hunting as an essential part of biologically sound and ethically responsible international wildlife management. The ideal candidate will have an existing knowledge of SCI’s current programs and mission and be passionate about hunter’s rights.

Summary

This position is responsible for ad sales in print publications and other media, developing and managing corporate sponsorships, and similar activities designed to raise revenues to support Safari Club International’s (SCI) mission of protecting the freedom to hunt and conserving wildlife. The Senior Sales Manager will work closely with Texas Trophy Hunter’s Association (TTHA) and Buckmasters and any other SCI-owned titles to streamline and consolidate efforts in Ad Sales and Development. Responsible for working with other departments to maximize their current revenue streams and with volunteers to develop and implement new revenue streams. Solicits advertising for SCI, TTHA, and Buckmaster’s publications. Assisting advertisers in preparing advertising materials, and billing for advertising sold.

Publications are the official word and voice of SCI/SCIF. The publications are the only mechanism within the organizations that reach every single member every single issue. Work is driven by production deadlines. Manages sales staff remotely. Incumbent should professionally interact with employees at all levels of the organization, advertising representatives and other corporate partners worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates closely with TTHA, Buckmasters, any other SCI-owned titles, and other SCI departments responsible for revenue generation and communications;
  • Develops and implements strategies to leverage knowledge of the hunting industry and the hunting community, particularly current and potential members, to provide revenues for support of mission operations;
  • Participates with other Department Directors in developing and executing SCI’s Long-range Strategic Plan, managing the staff-level functions of SCI, interfacing with the committees and governance structure of SCI, and developing organization-wide responses on issues;
  • Builds and manages a departmental budget;
  • Sets and implements policies on acceptable advertising and sponsorships in line with SCI business standards and consistent with SCI’s mission and messaging;
  • Researches advertising prospects and generates leads. Contacts leads to solicit advertising, obtains feedback from existing clients, maintains detailed record in data base of each call and actions taken or to be taken and schedules future call-backs.
  • Confirms sale of advertising space; suggests possible advertisement layout, requests advertising materials; advises clients of size requirements, material specifications and deadlines, requests prepayment from new advertisers; and follows-up as necessary. Prepares and signs client contracts. Sends out renewal contracts and follows-through to encourage and negotiate renewal. Resolves problems and concerns of clients.
  • Responds to advertising inquiries and provides information to clients and prospective clients and pursues the sale of advertising.
  • Arranges travel to attend trade shows visits current advertisers and calls on prospects to solicit advertising.
  • Manages support staff; interviews, makes hiring recommendations, orients/trains employees, plans, assigns, and directs work. In partnership with Human Resources, counsels employees on disciplinary and performance issues. Addresses employee development, recognition, complaints and concerns
  • Creates and supports an open communication culture. Conduct regular team meetings; continually update team on current goals and best practices, answer questions, and help team with new issues. Responsible for communicating departmental/procedural updates.
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance including quality of work and compliance; set clear expectations, goals and deadlines. Motivate team members by recognizing high performance and encourage creative thinking.
  • Prepare your team for future challenges by identifying and promoting new training. Set training standards for all new hires.
  • Engages in succession planning ensuring continuity of SCI’s capabilities in this area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Location and Travel Requirements

This position can work remotely full-time. Travel is required to SCI’s annual convention and TTHA’s Hunter’s Extravaganzas. May be required to attend other SCI or SCI-owned business events.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software, to include OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams with an ability to become familiar with SCI-specific programs and software.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of experience in print publications or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, the outdoor industry.
  • Must have prior experience in supervising/managing sales staff
