Lancaster Archery Academy’s Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) team produced two of the five champions crowned March 17 at the USA Archery 2022 Indoor Nationals Finals in Louisville, Ky.
The tournament featured the top eight finishers in USA Archery’s 2022 National Indoor Championships in the Barebow and men’s and women’s Compound and Olympic Recurve divisions.
Casey Kaufhold, 18, of Lancaster, Pa., won the Women’s Recurve finals championship by defeating Eunice Choi 6-4. Kaufhold was the top seed in the finals competition, having won the National Championship. In the finals, she defeated Emily Nelson and Jordan Marie Meiners both by scores of 6-0 en route to the gold-medal match.
Olivia Dean, 15, of Manahawkin, N.J., won the Women’s Compound finals championship by defeating Alexis Ruiz in the gold-medal match. Dean entered the finals competition as the fifth seed. She beat highly-decorated archer Linda Ochoa-Anderson and two-time defending Vegas Shoot champion Liko Arreola to get to the final match. She won that match after a one-arrow shootoff, since she and Ruiz were tied at 144 after the regulation five ends.
Both Kaufhold and Dean are products of the Lancaster Archery Academy JOAD team based in Lancaster, Pa. The program has produced many high-caliber archers, who have won titles on national and international stages. Additionally, Kaufhold is the program’s first Olympian, having competed on the 2021 USA team in Tokyo, Japan.
Lancaster Archery Academy JOAD is currently led by Heather Pfeil and Bryan Brady, who are both USA Archery Level-4 certified coaches.
Designed for archers under the age of 21, the JOAD program was created by USA Archery decades ago to produce competitive athletes for the world stage.
