CLAY CITY, KY.- This past weekend was an exciting one as archers took to the course at the 2022 USA Archery Field Nationals! Not only were podiums sought after, but many were competing for a spot on the USA Archery World Team! Many of these GAS shooter champions included Brady Ellison, Paige Pearce, and Jesse Broadwater!
USA Archery Field Nationals is slightly different from NFAA Field Nationals, where the competition is split into a day of 24 unmarked targets, where archers must judge the yardage, and a day of 24 marked targets. These targets also differ from an NFAA round where there is a yellow spot in the middle of the black rings. Comparatively, USA Archery Field Nationals is known to challenge archers with steep inclines forcing competitors to be on top of their game both in judging and in shot execution.
Multiple GAS shooters defeated the course and made the podium this weekend, almost making the tough weekend look like a breeze. In the men’s compound division, the top two archers had incredibly close scores where Jesse Broadwater placed first with an 835 while second place scored an 833. Continuing in the compound class, Paige Pearce led her class with an 826 with Toja Ellison just behind in second with an 816. It was another great weekend for the Ellison’s as Brady Ellison finished first in men’s recurve with a 726, separating himself from second place by an incredible 57-point lead!
Additionally, to the successes of the professionals on the range, in the compound junior men’s division, Ryan Booth took second with a 750. He tied the champion on score but was separated by 6s where first place had 66 and Booth totaled 59.
As for the anticipated World Field Team Trials, in the recurve men’s division, Brady Ellison placed first in qualifying for the team as he held a firm grasp on his spot ending out the weekend 82 points apart from the second-place contender! In the compound men’s division, Jesse Broadwater remained at the top as well leading his class by ten points, qualifying him for the Field Team. Paige Pearce earned her 1st place spot on the Team, by leading her class with a stellar 50 points above second to end out her weekend. Cassidy Cox earned herself a spot on the World Field Team as she placed third in the trials. In addition, Ryan Booth qualified for the World Field Team in second and was just five points off first.
Congratulations to all these archers as they displayed their skills out on the tough Yankton field course! Be sure to look for these GAS Bowstrings shooters who made the World Field Team as they will return to Yankton in October for the World Field Championships!
