Behind the Scenes of with the Drury’s: A True Content Machine

A household name, Drury Outdoors continues to lead the industry with its unparalleled insights into hunting whitetails and captivating narratives that keep viewers hooked. With four series airing with Outdoor Sportsman Group: Drury’s THIRTEEN on Outdoor Channel, Critical Mass on Outdoor Channel, Bow Madness on Outdoor Channel and Winchester & Drury’s Natural Born on Sportsman Channel, plus their recently released JUST SHOT: Drury’s Deer Season on MyOutdoorTV, the Drury’s are truly a content creating machine for the hunting enthusiast.

However, it requires a significant amount of dedication to create this much outdoor lifestyle content for their large fan base. As Terry Drury has repeatedly shared with his deer-centric audience, deer hunting is a 365-day process, which is why the Drury family continue to create content to fit the watching preferences for all audiences. “We’ve come a long way from VHS tapes to moving to TV to of course, social media. Recently, we started a semi-live format on MyOutdoorTV (with JUST SHOT) and we haven’t stopped since,” explained Terry Drury.

The Drury’s have been filming their hunts since Terry and his brother, Mark, started Drury Outdoors in 1989. Also included on the team are Mark’s daughter Taylor (Drury) Land, Terry’s son Matt Drury and a crew of around 50 field staff who consistently produce compelling hunts that keep their audience engaged.

Much of the content created for all the programs showcase what they do on their own farms that have helped make their lives easier – and the wildlife plentiful. From predator control to re-balance the ecosystem on their land to detailing a controlled burn on farm property Matt Drury recently purchased, the Drury’s want to share all they do to demonstrate how they build upon each season to improve the conditions for wildlife from turkeys to deer.

However, when it finally comes to hunting season, Matt Drury shares that not every season is a banner year. “One of the things we have noticed through time, all of us team members will ride the highs and lows of the season. Some seasons you can’t do no wrong, and sometimes you just can’t run into a big mature buck. For whatever reason, this is the way things go. But we are constantly working the property and planning for the next season,” said Matt Drury.

Finally, in the last few years, the Drury’s have perfected DeerCast, a deer-movement forecast app that harnesses over 70 years of Mark and Terry Drury’s whitetail hunting expertise to delivery hour-by-hour, algorithm-driven deer movement forecasts for the user’s location.

While creating a plethora of engaging content for their shows is no small feat, the Drury team makes it look easy through a combination of strategic planning, technological innovation, and leveraging their extensive network.
