This Week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav: Early Season Elk and Deer

This Week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav: Early Season Elk and Deer

Don’t wait for the rut, early season elk and deer hunts offer hunters some serious advantages in locating and tagging bulls, cows and big bucks. So, this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav, the boys are going to the pros for warm weather hunting tactics. Joining them will be Roger Raglin of “Roger Raglin Outdoors”, Dean Capuano from “Swarovski Optik Quests” and Mrs. Bunny. The Revolution is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV!

Western Hunting Optics with Dean Capuano: Is Bigger Always Better?

The idea of hunting “smarter not harder” isn’t a new concept, and that wisdom is especially helpful for physically demanding western hunts. Let your eyes be your legs! Dean Capuano, host of “Swarovski Optik Quests” on Outdoor Channel, says having good optics can help hunters maximize their time and energy. A good spotting scope, he says, enables a hunter to glass and spot animals that are miles away, determine their size, and from there decide if they want to pursue that animal - all without leaving their glassing location. Chasing down every animal you see is fine, however, you lose a lot of time and run yourself ragged hiking the backcountry when your eyes can do the leg work for you. Spotting scopes are ideal for long range, lengthy glassing sessions. Dean says that Swarovski’s BTX Eyepiece makes glassing even easier by allowing hunters to use both eyes, instead of one. It’s like having binoculars on your spotting scope. He’ll highlight the advantages to this modular setup.

Taxidermy Care: How to Clean, Condition and Keep Your Mounts in Top Shape
You hunted, you harvested, you mounted the head on your wall. Well done hunter. Game over, right? Wrong! That animal wall art, outdoor décor, wild life feng shui – whatever you want to call the mounts that are hanging on your wall, they require some maintenance. Keeping your taxidermy in top shape requires you to take it down periodically for dusting, cleaning, conditioning and insect prevention. It also allows you to look at the overall condition to see if the location you are hanging it is impacting its appearance and longevity. You went to the hard work and expense of hunting and mounting your animals, check out some tips for keeping your animal mounts in top shape.
