(Crested Butte, CO) - The Adaptive Sports Center celebrates the beginning of their 2022 Summer Adventure Season where highly skilled instructors customize lessons for people with a physical or cognitive disability, helping them build skills or learn new sports to enjoy the outdoors in beautiful Crested Butte, CO. For 35 years, the Adaptive Sports Center has set the standard of excellence for adaptive recreation and adventure programming.

Participants can register now for a wide variety of activities including biking, climbing, paddleboarding, rafting, hiking, challenge course, and camping. All equipment and expert instruction and guiding will be adapted to each individual’s needs so no two lessons are alike. Family and friends are welcome to join in on the fun and recreate together to bond, achieve goals, and make lasting memories.

Chris Read, Program Director for the Adaptive Sports Center, said, “Summer is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor adventures as a family. Our adaptive lessons are inclusive to people who want to get out together to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Crested Butte. We relish this time of year when we are reunited with past participants to build on their skills and welcome new faces to the Adaptive Sports Center family.”

The Adaptive Sports Center also offers special programs for veterans, and several camps including ones for burn survivors, women, and competitive mountain biking. Highly trained instructors will support participants as they try new sports, build on existing skills, set motivational goals, and immerse themselves in outdoor activities that have a lasting positive impact on their health, independence and overall well-being.

The Adaptive Sports Center firmly believes that cost should not be a deterrent to thrilling adventures outdoors for people with disabilities and that the activities offered should be accessible to everyone. New this year, through the Adaptive Sports Center's Adventure Equity Initiative, lessons are offered well below cost at $125 per day. Pricing and scholarship information can be found on the Adaptive Sports Center website.

The Adaptive Sports Center warmly invites the global adaptive sports community to celebrate during several public events this summer:

The Adaptive Mountain Biking World Championships will take place August 19 - 21 in Crested Butte, Colorado. Racers will compete for two days on the scenic singletrack trails and peaks of Mount Crested Butte using bikes that support their physical, intellectual, neurological, or sensory abilities. Spectators and fans are welcome at several points along the course and at the finish line.

The Bridges of the Butte At Home Challenge takes place August 28 - September 11. Participants from around the world can embark on a fun two-week cycling challenge. Registrants set and tackle cycling challenges at home while also raising funds to help us provide recreation to people with disabilities. Anyone can register to participate from anywhere in the world.

The 18th annual Bridges of the Butte Townie Tour takes place in Crested Butte, Colorado on Sunday, September 11. Participants dress up in festive attire and ride laps on a 2-mile course through town connecting all of Crested Butte's scenic bridges. After those laps, everyone gathers for an after-party on Elk Avenue with music, drinks, and prizes. Early registration is highly encouraged as this popular event sells out each year.
