Williamsburg, KY – Nestled just south of the state line shared with North Carolina is the town of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Fort Mill Bowhunters club is in this small community and is a place where friends and family come to have fun. Fort Mill Bowhunters club graciously provided a venue to South Carolina S3DA, who partnered with North Carolina S3DA to provide archers a family-fun filled day of 3-D competition. The boundary lines that separate the two states were not visible when the archers began competing. All archers were excited to see friends that they have competed with in the past and seasoned archers stepped up as role models for the beginner archers.

SC S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock stated, “My heat melted as I looked over the crowd of families and archers. Archery bridges the gap for all generations. The younger kids were walking side by side with the older kids and you could hear their various conversations as they made their way to their stakes. Having North Carolina S3DA accept our offer of having a dual regional tournament turned out amazing! This experience was priceless for me.”

As the day wrapped up, a few of the archers reflected on the shoot-downs and what archery means to them. Second place finisher, Sydney Ballard from Hawthorne Christian Academy (SC) stated, “I was extremely nervous, having eyes glued to me as I shot. I thought I had lost it until they held up the scorecard. I was thrilled to know that I could shoot decent under pressure and with the attention of others.” North Carolina student, Keenan Cooper earned a scholarship to attend Emmanuel College and this was his last regional shoot, as he will be joining the Emmanuel College Archery Team in the Fall. Cooper said, “Archery has given me opportunities I would not otherwise have had. It was bittersweet shooting in the shoot down. Thank you S3DA for the opportunity you’ve given me through archery!”

“This tournament was a huge success. During these unprecedented times it is important for us to work together to find a way to make competition possible for our youth sports. I am proud that North Carolina and South Carolina came together to create a safe and fun competitive archery shoot. I look forward to many more opportunities to work with our surrounding states to come up with positive solutions to today’s issues,” stated NC S3DA State Coordinator, Renee Griffith.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States.
