New 2025 LEXA HD 500 is tough, compact, and built for hurling colossal muskie and saltwaterbaits with the authority that is only DAIWA |
FOOTHILL RANCH, CA (August 13, 2025) – There’s no messin’ around when hurling baits like a DAIWA Bessie or Super-Size Suick to a disturbance triggered by a probable muskie. Dittos for unloading something like a DAIWA SALTIGA Cuddler or Gibbs pencil popper to some seriously nervous saltwater. This is no country for an undersized or coffee-grinder of a baitcasting reel. But you can trust DAIWA’s new 2025 LEXA 500 to have the physical mass and chutzpah to take on these tidal titans. “We built the new LEXA 500 to cast lures sizes from 3 to 16 ounces and more – giant baits,” explained DAIWA Field Marketing Manager, Chris Martin. For muskies, we’re talking jumbo crankbaits, jerkbaits, glide baits, swimbaits, huge soft plastics, and tremendous topwaters. In saltwater, think not only huge poppers, surface iron (monstrous spoons), and surface walkers, but also hefty live baits like sardines and mackerel. Bodily, the LEXA 500’s burliness begins with its sturdy superstructure. “We started with a robust aluminum frame and sideplates,” said Martin. At first clutch you’ll appreciate the reel’s sleek, solid state framework. |

That machismo carries over to the LEXA 500’s substantial spool and braking system. Designed with DAIWA’s LC (Long Casting) Concept, the thunderous reel features a beefy spool and MAGFORCE® casting control. “The LC spool is engineered to manage a significant amount of line and cast long distances,” said Martin. How much line capacity? DAIWA says the LEXA 500 will handle 250yds of 65lb braid; 200yds of 80lb braid; and 150yds of 100lb braid. Martin suggests spooling with J-BRAID x8 Grand, a favorite of both muskie and saltwater purists. DAIWA’s exclusive MAGFORCE reduces line overrun and leverages casting distance by employing precise magnetic control of the spool’s rotor to stabilize the spool during the most forceful part of the cast, preventing backlashes while also allowing for maximum casting distance with big baits. Gearing-wise, the LEXA 500 sports particularly hard brass gears for enhanced operation with large baits and reel longevity. That, while a 7.6:1 gear ratio takes up line quickly for fast retrieves and instantaneous hooksets – required traits for muskies and saltwater beasts. Martin concluded with praise for the reel’s unique handle. “It’s the best of the best for chunking big baits with its counterbalanced swept handle, combined with a single, round, EVA knob. It cranks with authority and the grip is solid even when wet.” MSRP $349.99 |

2025 LEXA 500 TECHNOLOGIES: LC (Long Cast) Concept DAIWA’s LC Concept enhances casting distance through a specialized spool design, reduced friction, and optimized braking. The concept prioritizes lightweight construction, large spool diameters, and specific spool geometries to maximize casting efficiency, especially during the final stages of the cast, and is engineered for use with midsized to large lures. MAGFORCE Cast Control DAIWA’s masterpiece magnetic braking system reduces backlash and improves casting performance for midsize to large lures. Magnets in the reel's side plates apply constant and controlled braking pressure to the spool, preventing overrun during casts. As you start a cast and the spool approaches maximum speed, the spool's rotor is kicked out towards the magnets, creating a smooth braking pressure to prevent backlash. |

ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT DRAG (UTD) An advanced drag system designed to provide smooth, consistent, and powerful drag performance. UTD employs a super high-density woven carbon drag washer system impregnated with specially designed grease. This results in minimal startup inertia, smooth drag efficiency, and reduced risk of line breakage or hook pull during sudden strikes. UTD allows for setting higher drag pressures without compromising smoothness or risking line failure. 120mm SWEPT HANDLE with EVA ROUND KNOB Designed to enhance cranking power, comfort, and aesthetics, DAIWA’s signature curved handle shape improves ergonomics, providing better leverage and a more comfortable grip compared to standard straight handles. |

THE PERFECT PAIRING Selecting matched rods for muskie mavericks is elementary – tap anything with the PROREX insignia, as DAIWA engineered them specifically for the freshwater terrors. An exceptional value at $100, the PROREX XT Muskie Series align ideally with the LEXA 500. Each of the four casting models features a sensitive, lightweight and responsive graphite blank, as well as cork handle and Fuji reel seat. For saltwater exploits, Martin endorses Proteus and SALTIST Boat Rods. Proteus Boat Rods are offer a blend of lightweight design, strength, and durability. They’re constructed with DAIWA’s High Volume Fiber (HVF) carbon technology, which bolsters strength and sensitivity. Braiding X reinforces the blank to prevent twisting and distortion under load, enhancing durability and casting accuracy while adding a striking appearance. Durable and lightweight Fuji Fazlite Tangle-Free K-Guides promote accurate casts and abrasion resistance. Boasts ultra-durable EVA grips for a solid, comfortable hold. Specifically, Martin identifies the PTBB10HF for tuna and yellowtail. SALTIST Boat Rods are an even more economical choice. Like Proteus, they are constructed with DAIWA’s High Volume Fiber (HVF) technology, using low-resin, high-modulus carbon graphite for a lighter, stiffer, and more sensitive rod. Features a Diamond Fore Grip and EVA Foam Rear Grip with Aluminum Oxide Guides. Martin points to the SLTST761HB for a do-it-all rod. |
