“We built the new LEXA 500 to cast lures sizes from 3 to 16 ounces and more – giant baits,” explained DAIWA Field Marketing Manager, Chris Martin. For muskies, we’re talking jumbo crankbaits, jerkbaits, glide baits, swimbaits, huge soft plastics, and tremendous topwaters. In saltwater, think not only huge poppers, surface iron (monstrous spoons), and surface walkers, but also hefty live baits like sardines and mackerel.

Bodily, the LEXA 500’s burliness begins with its sturdy superstructure. “We started with a robust aluminum frame and sideplates,” said Martin. At first clutch you’ll appreciate the reel’s sleek, solid state framework.

That machismo carries over to the LEXA 500’s substantial spool and braking system. Designed with DAIWA’s LC (Long Casting) Concept, the thunderous reel features a beefy spool and MAGFORCE® casting control. “The LC spool is engineered to manage a significant amount of line and cast long distances,” said Martin.

How much line capacity? DAIWA says the LEXA 500 will handle 250yds of 65lb braid; 200yds of 80lb braid; and 150yds of 100lb braid. Martin suggests spooling with J-BRAID x8 Grand, a favorite of both muskie and saltwater purists.

DAIWA’s exclusive MAGFORCE reduces line overrun and leverages casting distance by employing precise magnetic control of the spool’s rotor to stabilize the spool during the most forceful part of the cast, preventing backlashes while also allowing for maximum casting distance with big baits.

Gearing-wise, the LEXA 500 sports particularly hard brass gears for enhanced operation with large baits and reel longevity. That, while a 7.6:1 gear ratio takes up line quickly for fast retrieves and instantaneous hooksets – required traits for muskies and saltwater beasts.

DAIWA’s LC Concept enhances casting distance through a specialized spool design, reduced friction, and optimized braking. The concept prioritizes lightweight construction, large spool diameters, and specific spool geometries to maximize casting efficiency, especially during the final stages of the cast, and is engineered for use with midsized to large lures.

MAGFORCE Cast Control

DAIWA’s masterpiece magnetic braking system reduces backlash and improves casting performance for midsize to large lures. Magnets in the reel's side plates apply constant and controlled braking pressure to the spool, preventing overrun during casts. As you start a cast and the spool approaches maximum speed, the spool's rotor is kicked out towards the magnets, creating a smooth braking pressure to prevent backlash.
