CLAY CITY, KY- This past weekend was the start of the World Cup Finals in Hermosillo, Mexico, ending the 2023 World Cup Circuit. Nine of the sixteen compound shooters who took the Finals stage were GAS Bowstrings shooters. In addition, after the draw, at least one archer in each of the Finals matches shot GAS Bowstrings. After elimination matches had been shot, five GAS Bowstrings shooters made the podium out of the six available spots.
In the women’s compound division, Sara Lopez sought to take her sixth World Cup Finals Championship title in a row. She did just that by beating Tanja Gellenthien in the gold medal match by one point, 143-142. By doing this, Sara took her 8th overall World Cup Finals Gold medal and has set the bar even higher for most World Cup Final 1st place finishes. Tanja finished in second place taking her fourth World Cup Final podium finish.
In addition, the crowd favorite, Dafne Quintero fought hard in her bronze medal match to take her first-ever World Cup Finals podium! She beat out her competition 144-142.
In the men’s compound division, Mathias Fullerton set his sights on the gold medal and worked hard to advance to the gold medal match. There he tied his competition with a 148 going into a one-arrow-shootoff where Mathias had the closest arrow. Not only is this his first World Cup Finals podium, but this is his first World Cup finish in the circuit. Additionally, this is Denmark’s first World Cup Finals 1st place finish since 2013.
Rounding out the compound divisions, Mike Schloesser had to live up to his “Mr. Perfect” nickname in his bronze medal match to take third place. He was able to do just that beating out his competition, 150-149.
