Louisville, KY - Shooter of the Year Awards were presented for the Kentucky Outdoor 3-D Season following the 2017 Kentucky S3DA 3-D State Tournament held at Pulaski County Park on May 20th, 2017. In order to qualify for Shooter of the Year, archers had to participate in two of the three outdoor regional tournaments as well as the state tournament. Scores from the regional tournaments were combined with the state score. The top three archers in each class of at least three participants were awarded Shooter of the Year standings. The Shooter of the Year for each class received a Belt Buckle while 2nd and 3rd places received medals.
As the Kentucky outdoor season ends, planning for the next season has already begun. "We have definitely had our share of challenges with weather and the increasing number of participants," stated Kentucky State Coordinator Chris McDonald. "We will use that information while planning for future seasons. Again, I would like to thank all of our coaches and volunteers that help make S3DA possible in Kentucky."

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
