Memphis, Michigan —Prime Archery®, by G5® Outdoors—the leading manufacturer of premium, technologically advanced archery equipment and bows, is proud to report that Prime Archery Pro Staff member, Paul Tedford (Great Falls, MT) took the top spot this past weekend at the NFAA Marked 3D National Championship & Western Classic.
The NFAA Marked 3D National Championship & Western Classic provides tournament shooters with a unique format, where they shoot a 70 3D foam animal target course over three days, 25 targets the first two days, and 20 targets on the final day. A shooter can shoot two arrows at each target with a max score of 22 per target and total possible score of 1,540. Paul finished with an impressive score of 1,538.
Distance to the targets range from 4 yards to the 101 yard Bigfoot target. Targets are set at varying angles with some extreme angles for an added challenge. Each target features an orange dot, two arrows in the orange dot and the archer scores a 22. The size of the dot varies, depending on the distance to the target with further targets featuring larger dots.
“Some might think that given the known distance, and knowing where to aim, this would be a fairly straight forward tournament.” stated Paul. “However, every archer has to maintain their focus over the three days and 140 arrows, as well as contend with the constantly changing weather and winds.”
Tedford who earlier this year took home the Men’s Open Pro division at the Lancaster Classic and a Bronze Medal at World Archery Indoor World Cup Series in Nimes, France has continued to put his Prime Centergy X1 through high end competitions and is shooting better than ever.
“This has truly been a break out year for Paul coming off of a successful indoor season. I was fortunate enough to be in the same group as Paul all weekend and he was able to keep a strong focus while also enjoying the great event,” stated Tim Checkeroski, Pro Staff Manager at G5 Outdoors/Prime. “Paul and the Centergy X1 are proving to be a perfect match. His hard work and dedication to the sport continues to be rewarded even as he moves into the outdoor season."
“The balance of the Prime Centergy X1-39 really helped me, especially in instances where the extreme angles both up and downhill required you to set your sights quite differently than the actual distance to the target,” explained Paul. “I have to give a big thanks to my team partner, Dave Cousins, who as my spotter monitored and reported where my first arrow landed. This helped with the follow up shot immensely.”
