GAS Bowstrings Archers Put the X in SystmX in Shanghai

CLAY CITY, KY – From Kentucky to Shanghai, the GAS Bowstrings professional shooting staff is leaving their mark on the 2025 tournament trail. This past week, shooters from all over the globe traveled to Shanghai, China to compete at the second stage of the World Archery World Cup series. The World Cup consists of 4 events located in different parts of the world - with archers racking up points as they compete with the hope of earning an invitation to the World Cup Final (Nanjing, China) by finishing in the top 8 of their respective categories.

Mike Schloesser led the team’s impressive display and helped put the X in SystmX with some seriously awesome shooting over the course of the event. Mike led the tournament wire to wire; starting in qualification where he earned the #1 seed, which he then carried through the early stages of matchplay before ultimately winning it all in the finals on Saturday. Despite the heavy rains and high winds, Mike managed to stay centered throughout it all on his way to gold. GAS Bowstrings shooters Yonghee Choi (High Octane) from Korea and Rishabh Yadav (SystmX) from India took second and third place, respectively.

On the women’s compound side of the competition, Madhura Dhamangaonkar (High Octane) from India took gold over American Carson Krahe (High Octane). The brutal weather that occurred throughout the early stages of matchplay wreaked absolute havoc on the women’s bracketing. Madhura was the only archer from the top 10 to find their way into the semifinals, where she was able to continue her momentum. Carson on the other hand plowed through top seed after top seed with consistently high scores to secure her silver medal – and gain critical points towards a berth in the series Final.

In just his second event with GAS Bowstrings Recurve +, Matias Grande from Mexico was able to take down the first individual World Cup medal of his career with his second-place finish. Matias qualified in 7th place and kept the pedal down throughout his matches, leaving the yellow during only one end of the 13 ends he shot on his way to the final 4. It’s amazing to watch archers continue to raise their level of shooting after making the switch to Recurve + as they note softer shot feels that allow for more discernable feedback and tighter group sizes at all distances. Four of the final 8 athletes in the Men’s Recurve division trust Recurve +.

Other notable GAS Bowstrings shooters who competed in the event include Brady Ellison (5th place - USA – Recurve +), Willem Bakker (8th place - NED – Recurve +), Marcus D’Almeida (9th place – BRA – Recurve +), Casey Kaufhold (6th place – USA – Recurve +), Mathias Fullerton (5th place – DEN – Ghost XV), Luis Lezema (6th place – MEX – High Octane), Batuhan Akcaoglu (9th place – TUR – High Octane), Ajay Scott (9th place – GBR – Ghost XV), Jyothi Vennam (5th place – IND – SystmX), and Andrea Becerra (9th place – MEX – High Octane).
