Plymouth, Minn. — The Outdoor News Deer and Turkey Classic gets underway at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on March 9, with a full slate of seminars, exhibitors, and respected experts in the outdoor arena. Headlining the event will be the nationally recognized television hosts Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, from the Outdoor Channel’s The Crush with Lee and Tiffany, and Melissa Backman, host of Winchester Deadly Passion, airing on Sportsman Channel. But the biggest stars of the show are the walls of racks comprised of whitetail mounts that hunters from Minnesota bring in for scoring during the three-day show.
With more than 300 trophy mounts on display, the event is the biggest scoring event for the Minnesota Official Measurers, who officially score Minnesota racks for free throughout the three-day show. Organizers encourage hunters to bring their racks on Friday, March 9 and keep them on display through Sunday, March 11 to be eligible for special prizes. In addition to the chance to win prizes, including a Muddy Outdoors Boss XL hang-on treestand, high scoring antlers will receive ribbons in 36 categories during a ceremony on Sunday, March 11.
The 2018 Deer and Turkey Classic also boasts a lineup of interactive activities for youth in the Outdoor News Kid Zone. Live animal exhibits, a youth archery shoot, laser shot, and rubber band shoot are just a few of the activities. Youth should visit the trout pond, where young anglers have the chance to win a new Rapala Rip Stop lure, and to visit the National Wild Turkey Federation supervised BB gun shoot, to get an owl locator call. The Outdoor News Junior Pro Team booth is a must-visit for all youth under age 18 during this year’s Deer and Turkey Classic. Information and prizes will be available for youth involved in this fun new program through Outdoor News.
Once again, the seminars available during the Deer and Turkey Classic focus on what is important to hunters, with topics such as creating mock scrapes, decoying turkeys, and a valuable Q&A session with Minnesota DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr and DNR Wildlife Research manager Lou Cornicelli, facilitated by Outdoor News President Rob Drieslein. Seminars will be held on two stages throughout all three days of the event.
There are plenty of ways to save a couple dollars on gate admission to the 2018 Deer and Turkey Classic, but ladies who visit the event on Friday, March 9 will have the best deal with free admission available to gals of all ages from 4-9 p.m. The first 50 women to stop by the Wildlife Research Center booth during the ladies’ night promotion will also receive a special gift pack.
