POSITION TITLE: National Head Coach

REPORTS TO: TBD

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing world class internationally competitive men’s and women’s recurve individual athletes and teams in accordance with USA Archery’s High-Performance Plan, to include short and long-term planning and demonstration of effectively meeting measurable program performance objectives.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Raise the level of USA Archery’s men’s and women’s recurve athletes and teams to a highly competitive international standard that is sustainable to include achieving competitive milestones and goals set forth in the annual USA Archery High Performance plan submitted to the USOPC and as outlined in the USA Archery Strategic Plan and High Performance Strategic Plan.

• Develop, coordinate, and conduct training programs for the men’s and women’s national archery team to include international camps, funded short-term training programs, and contributing to training plans for the National Elite Program and Regional Elite Program in coordination with the Assistant Head Coach; to build and develop depth in the athlete and coach development pipeline and to prepare elite athletes for competitive archery success at the national and international level.

• Develop, coordinate, and conduct training programs for the Resident Athlete Program in Chula Vista, CA to include providing active recruiting athletes to the program and providing coaching services to the program athletes to include developing daily, weekly and monthly training plans, conducting quarterly goal setting meetings, documenting daily athlete performance, utilizing technology to improve performance and working in full coordination with the USA Archery staff and USOPC sport performance staff to develop world class athletes.

• Attend and provide coaching services to athletes at national and United States Archery Team events.

• Assist in the planning and development of trials procedures for international events which determine team selection, as well as US Archery Team selection criteria along with international team staff selection criteria.

• Serve as the Head Coach at international competitions, training events and camps.

• Make oral presentations at formal and informal training activities, committee and board meetings, civic groups and other public environments on behalf of USA Archery, including at select coaching workshops, seminars and the USA Archery National Symposium.

• Maintain the highest level of technical proficiency in archery specific discipline and generally accepted non-specific coaching and sports science skills.

• Participate in and coordinate sport discipline research.

• Adhere to the USA Archery High Performance Ethos and promote and enhance the image of competitive archery in the United States and globally.

• Ensures effective communication with teams, athletes, USA Archery staff and contractors are performed in a timely and effective manner and promotes an inclusive team environment.

• Adheres to United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) program requirements.

• Assists in the development and implementation of the USA Archery’s High-Performance Plans and Budgets as related to international teams and camps.

• Assist with the USAA International Team Staff development program.

OTHER DUTIES

• Fields general email, mail and phone call inquiries

• Maintains program records and historical data.

• Attends required USA Archery staff meetings.

• Attends USA Archery High Performance meeting and USOPC Sport Performance Meetings

• Continuously develops within the quality coaching framework and other coaching best practices.

• Other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS

• Archery Range and Office in Chula Vista, CA

• Extensive Domestic and International Travel Required (8+ weeks annually)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 5 years’ international event experience as athlete or coach

• Demonstrated ability to coach athletes to an internationally competitive level.

• Experienced in the development and execution of high performance plans.

• USA Archery Level 4 Coach certification or international equivalent or demonstrated experience.

• Familiarity with USA Archery’s National Training System

• Must be familiar with World Archery rules.

• Excellent written and communication skills

• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
