LATE SEASON SMACKDOWN
By January, birds have become very wary so waterfowlers have to be on top of their game in order to bag their limit. This week on The Revolution, it's the "Late Season Smackdown" and we're being joined by outdoor giants, Lee & Tiffany Lakosky of "CRUSH with Lee & Tiffany" on Outdoor Channel, as well as waterfowl guide John Gechter. They'll dish tips on how to adapt your hunting approach to changing weather, temperatures, food sources and hunter pressure, and how to take care of your bird dogs in the field. Then, Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV and Side-By-Side Group Marketing Manager, will dish the latest on how we can accessorize our ATV’s and Side-By-Sides to combat anything Mother Nature can throw out. Finally, joining us will be Jon Baker of "Jon Baker's Guide 4 Adventure" on Sportsman Channel with his harrowing story of survival in Alaska's unforgiving wilderness. The Revolution and this Late Season Smackdown is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.
Jon Baker
While on a mountain goat hunt in the Chugach Mountains of Alaska, Jon Baker was caught in an unexpected snow storm. Navigating the treacherous terrain in stormy conditions led to a 400 foot fall down the mountain. He spent 15 hours on the mountain, with severe back, head and leg injuries caused from the fall, as well as the onslaught of hypothermia. Due to severe weather conditions, search efforts were called off. Just when it looked like mother nature was about to seal his fate, little did he know, a 6-second phone call to his then girlfriend would be enough to pinpoint his location and get rescuers to him. Jon Baker’s story is incredible and inspiring. The experience didn’t turn him away from the great outdoors. Today, he is a hunting guide and fishing guide and the host of Jon Baker’s Guide 4 Adventure on Sportsman Channel. Tune in to The Revolution as Jon joins us and talks about his harrowing story and his return to the mountain to hunt mountain goats again.
Lee & Tiffany Lakosky
Tune in for a two-part interview with America’s favorite hunting couple, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky of “CRUSH with Lee & Tiffany” on Outdoor Channel. This week, Lee and Tiffany are taking a break from deer hunting and are talking waterfowl with us. Both Lee and Tiffany agree that Montana goose hunting is hard to beat, with thousands of geese coming off the Yellowstone River into nearby fields, however hunting the flooded timber in Arkansas takes the cake. Lee tells Jim and Trav that it’s different than the waterfowl hunting he did growing up in Minnesota, where believe it or not, at the time, he did more duck hunting than deer hunting. They’ll talk about concealment, why you should be meticulous in your setup, and how using a drone to get a bird’s perspective can help you make the necessary adjustments to perfect your blind and setup. They’ll also talk about their beloved hunting dogs, the proper field care required when hunting with your dogs in these cold temperatures and the importance of bringing a K-9 first aid kit with you every time you go afield. All this and more, don’t miss a fun interview with Lee and Tiffany Lakosky.
John Gechter
The waterfowling has been exceptional this season in Colorado and John Gechter of “Rainin’ Skies Waterfowl” is on The Revolution this week to hand out pointers to help you take advantage of the hot action. While it is true that location is crucial, nothing may be quite as important as proper concealment. John says that birds have become a lot smarter over the last few years and have been conditioned by hunters to be able to pick out blinds and other signs of a potential ambush. Tune in as he explains what they do to better conceal their pits to avoid being busted. In addition, John talks calling and body language and tells hunters that they don’t have to be a contest caller to be able to kill birds. Filling your bag limit comes down to the ability of a hunter to be able to make basic sounds with a goose call and more importantly being able to read the birds. Stay tuned to get some great tips and to find out how to hunt Colorado with the pros.
