Louisville, KY - Over 700 archers from across the United States participated in the fourth annual S3DA 3-D National Championship held at Mermet Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Belknap, Ilinois. on June 16-18. Archers competed in their respective divisions to earn the title of "2017 National Champion." During this three-day event, competing archers, parents and other spectators had the opportunity to participate in several special events, visit many archery vendors and enjoy some fantastic food.
"When our team developed this program we hoped that our students would eventually want to bow hunt, that families would get involved and students would naturally progress through our classes," said Jennie Richardson, Executive Director for Scholastic 3-D Archery. "We now have students who started in our Traditional Class shooting a genesis bow, transition to the Fixed-Pins Class then on to the Open Class. These same students are being offered College Scholarships so they can continue in their sport while getting a higher education. All across the country archery Retailers, Sportsman's clubs and churches are sponsoring their own S3DA clubs. Retailers involved with S3DA are seeing an increase in bowhunting participation and family members expressing an interest in bowhunting. Everyone is seeing an increase in membership and families are getting involved at an unprecedented rate. I'm simply proud to be a part of something that I know is making a difference for archery Retailers and Manufacturers. But more importantly, I'm very proud that S3DA is helping to bring families together and expose them to archery and bowhunting."

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
