COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – From the AAE Arizona Cup at the start of April through the Rebel Gear Buckeye Classic this past weekend, there were 104 different gold medalists across the four events in the USAT Qualifier Series.
Only one archer swept the board. In the compound open men’s category, KJ Polish took gold at the AAE Arizona Cup, the Easton Foundations Gator Cup, Easton Foundations SoCal Showdown and the Buckeye Classic.
Caleb Quiocho went close in compound U18 men. He started out with silver at Arizona Cup, sitting second behind Brody Wonch, before winning three gold medals in a row, at Gator Cup, SoCal Showdown and the Buckeye Classic.
Jordan White won three of four, also. He won silver at SoCal Showdown, behind Timothy Palumbo but those places were switched by the time Buckeye Classic came around. Paralympic gold medalist, Jason Tabansky, won the three USAT events he entered.
Elsewhere, Karen Sternfeld was a three-time gold medalist in recurve open women, while Wendy Gardner was two for two in compound open women.
Others to win more than one of the USAT Qualifier Series events this year included Janis Grellner (recurve 50+ women), Savannah O’Donohue (compound U18 women), George Ryals IV (compound 50+ men) and Maddison Stratton (fixed pins U18 women).
A number of archers finished the series strong, winning two in a row, notably Riley Adams (barebow U21 women), Keegan Benton (barebow U21 men), Barbara Carroll (barebow 50+ women), Diane Cochran (barebow women), Marcus Cooley (barebow men), Sachiko Keane (compound women), Hunter Kizerian (fixed pins U21 men), Lanie Nish (compound U21 women), Kylie Oliver (recurve U21 women), Sharon Totton (compound 50+ women) and Gabriel Urgelles (barebow U18 men).
Brady Ellison book-ended the recurve men’s division, with gold in Arizona and Ohio. In between, Trenton Cowles took top honors.
There was a family first at SoCal Showdown in June when husband and wife Allen and Nicole Rasor each won individual recurve 50+ gold, something they had never previously enjoyed at the same event.
There were also a good number of divisions which saw different gold medalists for all four events in the USAT Qualifier Series, highlighting the competitive nature and depth of talent. These included recurve women, recurve 50+ men, compound men, barebow 50+ men, recurve U21 men, recurve U18 men, recurve U18 women, compound U21 men, barebow U18 women, fixed pins U21 women and fixed pins U18 men.
