Manufacturing Sales Manager – Springfield, MA

The Manufacturing Services Division supports Smith & Wesson's production requirements as well as solicits business from external customers. Processes include: Forging, Heat Treat, and Finishing. This position will manage all aspects of the relationship with our external customer including; initial contact, development of quotation, program launch, production and delivery. This individual will work with all internal departments' Cell Coordinators, Team Leaders and external support personnel to plan and assign work, ensure policies, procedures and customer requirements are being followed for multiple customers at one time. Act as the point person to handle all external customers' inquires and questions and facilitate the completion of all customer documentation requirements. Regularly review the progress of the external customers' components through the manufacturing processes and compliance with pre-established lead times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to understand and interpret complex component drawings and determine our ability to manufacture these part to the customers' requirements.
  • This position will be responsible for cost analysis and processing of quotations to the external customers for all of the Manufacturing Services departments. A basic understanding of estimating is required.
  • Use appropriate project management techniques to insure tools, production processes, equipment and routings are fully defined, documented, procured and implemented for awarded external customers' quotations.
  • Review and maintain with accuracy the S&W manufacturing routing database including operation sequence and description , labor hours, set-up and changeover times and machine cycle times as well as appropriate work instructions where applicable for external customers' components.
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised customers' components, including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
  • Must work effectively with external customers' procurement managers.
  • Represents external customers on cross-functional teams and exhibits good customer service skills.
  • Works with minimal supervision, establish priority and meet scheduled completion dates.
  • Performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character. Some evaluation, originality and ingenuity is required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must have a Associate's degree (AS) or equivalent and a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the Heat Treating, Finishing, Plating and Forging industry, and a strong understanding of lean principles)
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Experience in addressing needs and concerns of shop personnel in a manufacturing environment and reflecting a background of good customer service skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple customers and multiple customers' projects.
  • Must have working command of the English language
  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (verbal instructions, written memos and instructions)
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SAP
  • SolidWorks knowledge a plus

Training Requirements:

  • Complete all necessary training as required by assigned department and position
  • Participate in and follow all company initiatives

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, reach, twist
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Normal office environment conditions
  • Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting
  • Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting
  • Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on factory floor
  • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear
  • All employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks
