Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded a grant to the Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow program at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow (CLfT) is a conservation education program designed for university students majoring in a natural resource discipline. The organization has paired with 42 natural resource agencies to foster the program.
The UW campus has been offering the CLfT program for more than 20 years. The program consists of various workshops that outline hunting regulations, wildlife management, and firearm handling. After the classroom sessions students participate in a field day where shooting skills and game preparation are taught. This is followed by an actual hunting opportunity.
“This program is a great way to introduce young adults into the world of hunting,” said Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “It is also cultivating the future leaders of our natural resource agencies.”
