CHULA VISTA, California - The 2017 U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships concluded Sunday with individual elimination matches. Several well-established teams continued strong holds on much of the field, while new and smaller teams emerged as strong contenders.

Texas A&M swept the bowhunter women's podium, took bowhunter men's gold, compound men's gold, compound women's gold and silver, and recurve men's silver. Bowhunter top finisher, Nicole Schultz, who battled from an 8th place seed to the gold win, shared: "I'm really proud, I'm shocked honestly. We worked so hard to get here, it's incredible. I couldn't ask for a better team, or better friends. They do everything for me and I'm so happy and proud."

Cody Sahualla of Lamar University was the second place qualifier for the barebow men. After a narrow win in the semifinals, he went on to take the gold: "I thought I was going to choke and I ended up making it on a one-arrow shoot off by a quarter of an inch," he shared. "After that I got a second wind and ended up going on to first. It does mean a lot, I took pictures and everything. I'm hoping to bring this win back to my school and show them what our program can do. We've gone to a about five or six shoots so far and some of my team has done really well, and hopefully we can all make it here to Nationals next year."

The Columbia recurve women swept their podium. Sophomore Bianca Gotuaco took the gold in a close final match with Christine Kim. I am very happy, I am very proud of our team. I know we deserve it, but I'm still very shocked. We worked so hard this year - our practices were very productive now that we have a dedicated practice space and we've had better weather so we were able to prepare very well. I think we're all very happy with how we did."

The recurve men's podium saw University of Connecticut's Elliott Simon take the gold and University of Nebraska's individual archer David Wolfe take the bronze. Simon shared: "It was awesome to know that the hard work I put in, especially in such a short amount of full-time course load and the northeast weather, has paid off and I've been fortunate enough to shoot great the past few years. Shoutout to my mom, my girlfriend and my team for supporting me and staying on the field through these long days; I couldn't do what I do without you all.
