S3DA Event Held in Conjunction With P&Y Rendezvous

Louisville, KY - Archers from Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana participated in the first Wisconsin Scholastic 3-D Archery tournament. The "Wisconsin Shoot-out" was held during the Pope and Young Club's Bowhunters Rendezvous. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) provided staff for the event and helped with range set-up and tear-down. The support and excitement from the parents, club members, volunteers, archers and all involved seemed to be contagious. Many thanks to all who braved the extreme heat and high humidity to participate and help during the first Wisconsin S3DA event.

"The Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) tournament held in conjunction with the 2016 Pope and Young Rendezvous was a hit with all the families and archers attending," said Dan Schroeder, Wisconsin State Coordinator for Scholastic 3-D Archery. "Hot weather couldn't deter archers from 3 states from putting their skills to the test on a challenging course. Archers had a chance to compete for individual awards, plus take some time to check out the vender area, novelty shooting opportunities and the grounds at the McKenzie Center. Emails and phone calls started pouring in the following week asking
for the dates of next event."

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
