Scholastic 3D Archery Presents $60K in Scholarships

Scholastic 3D Archery (S3DA) awards over 60K in college scholarships and increases participation!

Campellsville, KY – June 22, 2015 – 3D archery at its finest! The Friends of Green River Lake and the Green River S3DA Archery Club hosted its first regional scholastic 3D shoot on May 2nd at beautiful Green River Lake State Park in Campbellsville Kentucky. Perfect weather and a great turnout of 89 kids from all parts of the great state of Kentucky came out to showcase their skills. The course was an ASA style competition, with 20 targets set out in various ranges. Archers competed in divisions of Elementary Pins, Elementary Bare Bow, Middle School Pins, High School Pins and Middle and High

School Bare Bow. Archers were also able to form teams from their local school districts to compete for team titles.

"As a shop owner, I have been involved with NASP in our local schools and it has been great for archery, says Shawn Canada of Crazy Horse Archery & Tackle. "S3DA is taking it one step farther. When NASP started I saw a few parents coming back into the shop who had been out of the game for a while. When their kids came home from school excited about archery it rekindled their passion to shoot also. S3DA not only is doing the same thing, it's getting them back into the sport and bringing in new people. On the weekend of our regional shoot while setting up the course, I had to stop in the shop to get something for the shoot. While I was there I had a customer come into the shop and purchase a new bow just so he could shoot with his son in the S3DA shoot we were hosting the following day. I see S3DA creating more and more opportunities like that for my shop and others who get involved promoting S3DA in their area. One of the most remarkable things I have noticed with this program is the Colleges and Universities that are willing to promote archery by offering scholarships to the winners in the high school divisions. Kids today have the opportunity to pay their way through college and get their education paid for by shooting a bow! How awesome is that? Archery is a growing sport and with programs like S3DA, the future is brighter than ever. If you're a shop owner or a range operator, get behind this program, it will grow your business and the sport!"

S3DA is a great opportunity for the youth of America and all around the world to learn the great sport of archery and hone their skills to be better bowhunters or just become the best target archery they can be. Archers are not tied to one brand or a specific style of bow to shoot; we have kids shooting Genesis bows, recurves and all brands of compound bows.

"We are absolutely overwhelmed, but not surprised, by the interest in our S3DA program," says Michael Lundeen, National Director for S3DA. "The entire country is enthusiastic about the opportunities that we are providing for the young generation and we are bringing on states almost daily. Within the next week or so we should have programs started in SC, PA, GA, WV and SD. We have known for a while now that S3DA is the future of archery, but now everyone else does too!"

S3DA provides 3-D archery opportunities for youth in afterschool settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in their communities. S3DA places special emphasis on archery education, conservation, and bowhunting. Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates in 17 states with 325 certified coaches, serving more than 3,000 youth in grades 3–12.
