Iowa Archers Score Well at Nationals

Iowa archers made their presence felt in the Kentucky Exposition Center May 7-9 during the National Archery in the Schools Program® 2015 National Tournament, in Louisville.

Anamosa's David Machart earned second place in the high school division and second overall with a score of 297. Machart shot a perfect score of 50 to win the shoot off for second place.

Logan Kelly, of Mount Vernon, earned sixth place in the middle school division and eighth place overall with a score of 295.

Lane Mollenhauer, of Central City, earned first place in the elementary division with a score of 290.

Aiden Anderson, of Spencer's Sacred Heart, earned second place in the elementary division with a score of 288.

Alex Brittain, of Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont, earned eleventh place in the middle school division with a score of 293.

Iowa's top teams were Mount Vernon Middle School that was eighteenth out of 201 teams and Spencer High School that was twentieth out of 192 teams.

The five Iowa archers and two teams qualified for the world tournament in Nashville July 23-25 at the Music City Center.

Iowans also scored well in the optional 3D challenge. Kyra Ellis, from Central City, earned second place in the high school girls division out of 410 and second overall out of 1,218 with a score of 291.

Logan Kelly earned second place in the middle school boys division out of 673 and twelfth overall out of 1,623 with a score of 290.

Lane Mollenhauer placed fourth in the elementary boys division out of 428 with a score of 282.

Drew Mollenhauer, Central City, placed twelfth for high school boys division and Zach Kolker, Mount Vernon, placed seventeenth in the middle school boys division.

Iowa's top 3D teams were Mount Vernon Middle School at fourth place and Central City High School at eighth place.

Iowa sent 451 archers to nationals who qualified during the state championship held March 7 during Iowa Deer Classic, in Des Moines. Schools represented at nationals include Albia, Alburnett, Anamosa, Atlantic, Bellevue, Cardinal Community, Center Point Urbana, Central City, Diagonal, East Union, Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont, Iowa Christian, Jesup, Marquette Catholic, Mount Vernon, Solon, Spencer (Sacred Heart and High School), Wapsie Valley and Washington.
