Alabama State NASP Winners Announced

Alabama's National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Championship was held April 11 at the Cramton Bowl. More than 1,250 students from across the state, grades three through 12, competed for the title of state champion and the opportunity to advance to the national championship in May. More than 2,700 students statewide competed in one of seven regional events in order to qualify for the state championship.

The top individual winners and top three teams in each division are:

TOP OVERALL INDIVIDUAL WINNERS

MALE: Chase Roberts, Ashville High, Score: 293 (out of a possible 300)
FEMALE: Chirsti Bone, Alma Bryant High, Score: 290 (out of a possible 300)

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DIVISION

1. Saraland Elementary, Saraland
2. Arab Elementary, Arab
3. Gilliard Elementary, Mobile

MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION

1. Buckhorn Middle, New Market
2. Ashville Middle, Ashville
3. Foley Middle, Foley

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION

1. Alma Bryant High, Irvington
2. Ashville High, Ashville
3. Buckhorn High, New Market

This is the fourth year in a row that Alma Bryant High School has taken home top honors in the high school division.

Qualifying teams from the Alabama NASP state championship will be eligible to attend the NASP national tournament May 9-10 in Louisville, Ky. Complete results for the state championship are available on the ADCNR website at www.outdooralabama.com/education/archery/.

The NASP is a joint venture between the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division and the Alabama Department of Education. NASP instills discipline and concentration, and participants learn a life skill as part of a school's physical education course or after school programs. Scoring is based on Olympic style, target archery in three divisions - elementary, middle and high school. Competition is on team and individual levels.
