Whitetails Unlimited Partners With The Wildlife Management Institute

Whitetails Unlimited recently contributed $3,000 to the Wildlife Management Institute for the 85 North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. The conference is being held in Omaha, Nebraska, and serves as the annual forum to set conservation policy in North America. Attendees include administrators from natural resource agencies, college and university programs, conservation organizations, as well as other managers, scientists, and researchers. There will be 150 separate meetings and functions held where attendees can learn and exchange ideas.

Topics for discussion at the conference will include climate adaptation, conservation of at-risk species, and natural resource agency workforce diversity. Another topic that will be discussed in depth is the national R3 initiative. R3 stands for Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation and is a movement among the conservation community aimed at increasing participation in hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. Whitetails Unlimited has created a booklet that focuses on the 3 R’s and has invested $10,000 to produce 47,000 booklets titled “Deer Hunting - Next Generation.” The majority of the booklets are currently being distributed at each of the annual 500 WTU events.

“This conference is extremely important to the outdoor community,” said Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “Input from all attending is vital to ensure the conservation policies being implemented are constructive.”
