Williamsburg, KY – Arkansas S3DA State Coordinator, Tracy Shaw is building a network of Regional Coordinators across the state to continue expanding S3DA membership and events. Brent Smith will be the Southeast Regional Coordinator and Shane Jewell will be the Southwest Regional Coordinator. As Regional Coordinators, each will oversee the development and operation of Arkansas S3DA within their region, including educating and recruiting parties interested in forming new S3DA teams, setting yearly goals for the number of new teams, instructors, members, etc., assisting with regional and state events, and when possible, attending and assisting with National S3DA events.

Brent Smith was born and raised in South Arkansas. He moved to Central Arkansas to attend the University of Central Arkansas, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Not many years after graduating, Smith went the non-traditional route and become a schoolteacher. Brent’s wife Sandy had a job that brought them to El Dorado, Arkansas, where he taught school for three more years at El Dorado High School before deciding to start an archery business. After starting the business, Smith and his wife decided to start a JOAD program. Brent stated, “As the archery club expanded, so did the shop! Two years ago, we bought enough 3D targets to start having 3D shoots and we are eager to get more kids involved in the 3D side of archery with S3DA.”

Shane Jewell was born and raised in Southwest Arkansas. He graduated from Genoa Central High School and attended Texarkana College for a degree in Industrial Electricity. Shane has been with Union Pacific Railroad for fourteen years, where he currently holds the position of Signal Maintainer. Shane started shooting a bow at the age of six and by the age of ten got his first deer kill with a bow. He loves to hunt, fish, and basically do anything involving the outdoors. Shane’s goal this year is to train other coaches, grow S3DA teams and bring more regional competitions to kids in the area. Shane stated, “Archery is something I have loved since I was a kid, and I am grateful to have this opportunity to work with the younger generation and show them there is more to life than video games, cell phones, and TV.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
