NDA to Reschedule Pennsylvania Public Meetings

Spring Meetings that were supposed to be held in April and May will tentatively be pushed to June.

INDIANA, Pa. -—The National Deer Alliance (NDA) has announced the rescheduling of public meetings at locations around Pennsylvania to discuss chronic wasting disease (CWD). In response to COVID-19, the town-hall style meetings will tentatively be pushed to June. These events will allow for dialogue and open questions from attendees—and engaged attendees are essential.

CWD is currently the most significant threat to the future of healthy deer populations, deer hunting and the hunting industry. It is quickly becoming the biggest challenge to broad wildlife conservation that sportsmen and wildlife managers have encountered over the last century. First detected in Pennsylvania in 2012, CWD has continued to spread across the Commonwealth, including several positive deer being found in new areas this year. Data suggests that if no changes in CWD management are made, parts of Pennsylvania could eventually reach a 30 percent prevalence rate.

“Obviously with the challenging time we’re facing across the country and the world, public gatherings, travel and daily life have come to a screeching halt,” said Pinizzotto. “These meetings in Pennsylvania are essential to providing the latest information on CWD to one of the largest, most passionate deer hunting bases in the US. We want people to be able to safely attend and fully focus on the important topic of CWD management. We look forward to scheduling events after the threat has passed.”

Future Event Times and Locations

Currently there are still six events planned and the NDA will do everything possible to schedule that the same or similar venues. The first two events are set for Chambersburg and Lancaster Pennsylvania. The NDA will send updates via news release, social media and on its website.
