Film The Harvest Aims to Change Attitudes Towards Hunting

Dove and Slated recently read the script of the film The Harvest and their review suggests that the film will be a desperately-needed answer to the increasingly negative portrayal of hunting and hunters prevalent in the mainstream media today.

Here are just a few examples of such portrayals from the past few years: In July of this year, Amazon released a film called “The Silencer” which is a story about a “reformed hunter” who when asked why he doesn’t hunt anymore, he responded, “because killing animals is wrong”. In 2018, Netflix released “The Legacy of a Whitetail Hunter”, a story about a professional hunter who is taking his son on his “rite of passage” first deer hunt. This movie is a confirmation of every horrible stereotype of hunters. In this film, the father yells for his son to shoot a running deer and in doing so, the young hunter shoots the cinematographer. The hunting party uses glass bottles for target practice while on the hunt. What does a Netflix hunting camp look like? A 14-year old boy drinking, smoking and looking at pictures of naked woman.

Is this a true representation of today’s hunter?

The Harvest will be a much-needed response to this portrayal as this film not only tells the true story of the important aspects of hunting from the science perspective, but also shares the beautiful heart of the outdoor lifestyle.

Two separate Harvest script reviews confirm the absence of this positive message in mainstream fiction movies:

“The Harvest really surprised me. The story and subject matter is definitely not common, the writing is clever, scenes are well thought out, transitions are fantastic and artful. The idea of hunting, life versus death, faith and our priorities is a brilliant combination of elements I have not seen before”. – Dove

“The focus on hunting is a narrative largely absent from the mainstream media”—Slated

“Centered on a pro-hunting family facing trouble in New York, The Harvest is a thought-provoking piece that discusses the positives of hunting while also providing welcome commentary on the outrage culture”—Dove

“The plot offers a perspective on hunting not often featured in films that discusses topics like conservation and poaching. This allows for fresh elements to emerge in scenes”. - Slated

“Most importantly, the film centered around “the hunt”, reminds us life is really about The Harvest. In this reviewer’s humble opinion, The Harvest is an excitingly different faith-based film and definitely worth watching”. –Dove

“As outdoorsman and women, it falls on us to protect our hunting heritage and articulately communicate the benefits and values of hunting, sharing the truth and all that is beautiful with our lifestyle” stated Mark Drury of Drury Outdoors. “It is not only important for the current generation of outdoor enthusiasts, but for the tens of millions of people who do not understand the critical benefits of hunting – these people are voters, and we will need them to help protect this valuable heritage. The Harvest has the unique ability to do that, and that is why we are so passionate about this project.”
