Kentucky S3DA Hosts Boyd County 3-D Qualifier

Williamsburg, KY  – Kentucky S3DA had a day full of cloudy skies and slow drizzling rain for their regional qualifier at Boyd County High School. Stacy Groce, Kentucky S3DA Regional Coordinator said that it brought back memories of the 2017 3-D season’s tough weather. However, the inclement weather did not stop archers, parents and other spectators from enjoying the day. Boyd County Archery Coach, Kammera Hemmann described the day, “Overall it was a fantastic day. We had plenty of great food and we enjoyed having everyone out on the range. We would like to thank everyone for coming out and helping to make this qualifier a success.”

“Last year we were wrapped in blankets and dealing with some strong winds, so a little rain and warmer weather is welcome this year,” said Shell Isaacs, JC Nock High parent. The safety of our archers is always the number one priority on the range and with an open venue it is extremely important. “Our archers and our program have come a long way since we started. These guys are doing a really good job of watching and keeping it safe out here today,” stated S3DA Board Member Mark Whitt.

Midway College Head Coach, Stacy Riddle was on hand to help on the range Saturday. Stacy said, “Whether you are a beginning, intermediate or even advanced archer, archery will give you something that is almost impossible to find elsewhere. There is no excellence in archery without great labor and there is not an archer out here today that is not giving it their very best.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program.  S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting.  The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving

thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
