Georgia S3DA 2018 3-D State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Georgia S3DA recently hosted their 2018 3-D State Championship and more than doubled last years registered archers with 130 students. Georgia continues to see tremendous growth with increases in student, team, and club memberships. Lindsey Wilson College, University of the Cumberland’s and University of Pikeville each offered scholarship opportunities to all high school students earning a podium finish.

This year’s tournament was hosted by Refuge Archery, Georgia’s largest S3DA club with nearly 80 students. Refuge archery is an affiliate of the Maysville Baptist church in Maysville, GA. The church was gracious enough to allow the use of their land and facilities for the tournament. The fully air-conditioned fellowship hall was a welcome place for lunch and awards to get out of the record 92-degree heat. Michael Reynolds serves as the Ministry Director and Head Coach of the Refuge Archery program. Michael stated, “We were honored to be selected to host the 2018 3-D State Championship”. Refuge Archery wanted to be sure and thank all the coaches and parent volunteers for the months of preparation and range work that went into hosting a tournament that entertained the absolute best 3-D youth archers in the state.

The tournament day started with a mandatory safety meeting and was followed up with a few words from S3DA National Board of Directors member, Hank Forester. Jake Martin, S3DA Georgia State Coordinator had this to say, “It was a real treat to see a board member show up and witness the start of this great tournament. It was just one of the many things that made this year’s tournament even better than the last. As an organization, we are growing and learning. We successfully took the lessons learned from 2017 and implemented change for 2018.”

Georgia S3DA archers are now shifting their focus to the National 3-D Tournament being held in Metropolis, IL on June 22-24, 2018. Jake said “Georgia S3DA has set a goal to be represented by at least 60 students at 3-D Nationals and he personally hopes to see a Georgia student in every podium picture while in Illinois.”
