Hunter Debates Anti-Hunter on Chinese News Program

NORMAN, Okla.  Uncertainty about the United States’ position on the importation of certain African species was the impetus for a debate between two Americans on a Chinese news channel Tuesday night. The discussion included long-time television host and hunter advocate Steve Scott and Humane Society International attorney Masha Kalinina on China Global Television Network (CGTN) program Global Business America. The 24-hour English news channel of China Central Television (CCTV) preceded the debate with a report about how tourist hunting affects rural Zimbabweans.

“Though the benefits of properly regulated hunting are scientifically proven, cherry-picked facts and emotional ploys punctuated by either gore or puppies and kittens is standard procedure for anti-hunter organizations, and this time was no different,” said Scott. “It is always a challenge to communicate the depth and complexity of hunting in 20-second sound bites.”

Global Business America was hosted by award-winning presenter Rachelle Akuffo and can be viewed here.
