S3DA Names S. Carolina Coordinator

Louisville, KY - Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Michael Grimsley as the new S3DA South Carolina State Coordinator. As the State Coordinator, Michael will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in South Carolina, including tournaments, training and dividing the state into regions that will allow S3DA participants multiple monthly competition venues as close as possible to their home location. Michael will also recruit and hire Regional Coordinators to oversee and manage these individual regions.

"We are very blessed to have Michael Grimsley step up and fill this vacancy," says Jennie Richardson, Executive Director for Scholastic 3-D Archery. "The departure of Chris Jones from our program as the South Carolina State Coordinator due to his job change was unexpected. Chris' new job will not permit him to have the time needed to continue as our South Carolina State Coordinator. Chris was making great progress in South Carolina with the S3DA program. Michael will bring some interesting developments to our program as a middle school teacher working his way up the ranks of archery from the NASP's BAI to the USAA Level 2 to becoming an Advanced Coach for S3DA. I look forward to working with Michael and watching him grow our sport. This is going to be fun for South Carolina."

Michael Grimsley began his journey with the sport of archery as a youth in the Boy Scouts of America. Fast forward to his adult life, the summer of 2014 he became a Level 1 USA Archery instructor and began teaching archery for his local BSA council. Michael is a 9 year middle school teaching veteran and that following school year, he started the NASP program at his middle school. He currently coaches the Varsity and JV NASP competitive teams where they earned a third place finish at their regional competition and qualified for their state tournament their first year out. In the spring of 2016, Michael became a Level 2 Instructor through USA Archery and began searching for something else to keep his archers interested and engaged when he stumbled across the Scholastic 3D Archery program. He is very excited to see what S3DA can do for his program and for the entire state.

"I am very excited to see what Scholastic 3-D Archery can do to grow and enrich the archery program here in Gilbert and over all of South Carolina," says Michael Grimsley, new S3DA Coordinator for South Carolina. "Scholastic 3-D Archery's next-step opportunities and disciplines for students will permit them to advance in a family oriented sport, a sport where they can participate for a lifetime in the discipline or disciplines of their choice.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
