S3DA National 3-D Championships June 17-19

Louisville, KY - Scholastic 3D Archery's National 3D Championship will be held from June 17-19, 2016 at Mermet Lake State Conservation Area in Metropolis, Illinois. S3DA expects this event to be the largest that the program has ever hosted, with more than 400 pre- registered students from 12 different states. Due to the growth of the S3DA National 3-D Championship, this year's tournament will be a stand-alone tournament. It was previously held in conjunction with the Kentucky ASA Pro/Am event.

The S3DA National Championship promises to be a great time for S3DA students, coaches and families. There will be shoot downs in all age divisions, including elementary, middle and high school, as well as all shooting classes (open, fixed pins, traditional and Olympic recurve). Many fun events are scheduled throughout the weekend for attendees to enjoy including a Limb-Saver known distance course and team shoots. Equipment vendors will be on-site so students can get information on the latest gear or purchase equipment and merchandise.

"The overwhelming growth of our program has made it necessary for us to have our own event and that is huge for us" says S3DA Executive Director, Jennie Richardson. "We are hoping that this event will be like a mini ASA event, tailored specifically for the kids. I think the S3DA students are really going to enjoy this tournament and everything it has to offer."

Richardson also added, "I want to personally thank all of the state and regional coordinators, coaches, and volunteers for the hard work they are doing at the grassroots of our program. It is because of all of you that we are seeing such growth in our program and that we are able to provide an event of this magnitude for all of our students."

S3DA National Director, Michael Lundeen is also enthusiastic about this event. "It is going to be great to see the S3DA kids enjoying their own Pro/Am style tournament complete with all the bells and whistles, to include a final shoot down for all classes. An incredible amount of planning and tons of volunteer hours have gone into this event and I look forward to seeing everything come together."

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4- H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3- D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
