Tim Spielman Named Editor of Minnesota Edition of Outdoor News

Plymouth, Minn. — Outdoor News, Inc., publisher of locally written fishing and hunting outdoor newspapers in the seven Great Lakes states, has announced the promotion of veteran journalist, Tim Spielman, to the title of editor for the company's Minnesota weekly publication.

Spielman has been an associate editor with Outdoor News publications since 1999, and will replace longtime Outdoor News employee Joe Albert in the role of editor for the Minnesota title effective April 27. Albert announced earlier this month that he'd like to pursue freelance work and spend more time with his young family.

"Over the past 12 years, Joe has been a great friend for fellow staffers, and we wish him luck with his novels and other freelance endeavors. We expect he'll continue submitting news and feature stories to our newspapers," said Rob Drieslein, company managing editor and president. "As for Spielman, he's been a valuable part of our company for 17 years, and I'm excited about the journalism and organizational skillset he brings to his new role."

The duties Spielman has been responsible for during the past 17 years include news reporting on topics such as Mille Lacs, conservation aspects of the federal Farm Bill, and the discussion leading up to the 2008 Legacy Amendment. Those experiences have exposed him to a broad scope of issues that are important to Minnesota outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to having attended a dozen of the Minnesota DNR's roundtables and other meetings, Spielman has also worked as an associate editor for the Michigan and Wisconsin Outdoor News publications during his tenure with the company.

Minnesota Outdoor News readers are familiar with Spielman's contributions to the weekly lake profile and many hunting and fishing features. His contributions stem from a personal interest in the outdoors including fishing, deer hunting, and waterfowl and pheasant hunting with his dog, Mo. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Morris, a Pheasants Forever member, and has been a Ducks Unlimited committee volunteer for 14 years.

"Having been with Outdoor News all these years, and having seen the positive effects it's had on hunting, fishing, and conservation in this state, I truly look forward to the opportunity to continue to move the publication forward. Change in the outdoors is a constant, but with an educated and devoted public, it can be a good thing." Spielman said.
