S3DA Names Site for 2016 National Tournament

Coordinators Conference
Louisville, KY – Month Day, year – Scholastic 3D Archery has announced that the 2016 National Tournament and State Coordinators Conference will take place June 17-19th in Metropolis, IL. 2016 will mark the first "stand alone" National Tournament for S3DA. The 2 day shoot will be held the Mermet Lake State Park and will include 40 targets and a shoot-down event.

"We are extremely excited that our National tournament will be a stand-alone event in 2016," says Jennie Richardson, S3DA Executive Director. "With over 24 states on board and more waiting, we expect a very large event. ASA has been more than gracious the past three years to include our tournament in with their Pro-Am in London, KY. This year our numbers really taxed their event, staff and facility."

S3DA will also hold their State Coordinators Conference during the National Tournament in Illinois. "This should be a great conference and I'm excited to see how many states and countries will be on board by June, 2016," stated Richardson.

Michael Lundeen, S3DA National Director, is also looking forward to the 2016 event. "Our rapid expansion and the explosive growth of the S3DA National Tournament necessitated us moving it to a larger venue. We are pleased that Metropolis, Illinois will be hosting our big event in 2016. We will continue our wonderful relationship with ASA by holding the event in a shared location the weekend before their Pro/Am. ASA has been and continues to be, a great partner providing S3DA with the infrastructure needed to host these events. The 2016 National Tournament looks to be our biggest and best yet."

ASA President Mike Tyrell feels that the new location will be a great benefit for the S3DA tournament, allowing new events to take place. "ASA has used the Mermet Lake site for the Mathews Archery Pro/Am since 1996. Since its inception the city of Metropolis has welcomed and embraced archers, and the Mermet Lake site and facilities have been a favorite of ASA competitors for many years. As part of this new stand-alone championship, S3DA will be offering special competition rounds for the parents, a Friday Team Shoot for all S3DA competitors and their families, as well as other novelty and bonus events that promise to make this a full weekend of archery for everyone. In addition, S3DA sponsors will be on hand displaying their products and providing special incentives for S3DA members. This promises to be a signature event on everyone's archery calendar so make sure to join us June 17- 19, 2016 in Metropolis, Illinois!"

S3DA provides 3-D archery opportunities for youth in afterschool settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in their communities. S3DA places special emphasis on archery education, conservation, and bowhunting. Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
