Uniontown, PA – Capping off what was already considered an unbelievable tournament season, Levi Morgan wasted no time clinching the 2015 ASA Shooter of the Year title for a record-breaking 9th straight season. With this current ASA SOY title, Morgan breaks his own record of 8 consecutive ASA SOY titles, set last season. An amazing feat, considering this season Morgan was the first ever to win all three legs of the IBO Triple Crown capturing the IBO SOY title, as well as, winning the IBO World Championship, just two weeks ago.
Morgan entered the ASA Classic, held in Fort Benning, GA, August 20-23, with 2158 total points and an18-point lead for Shooter of the Year honors over the nearest competitor. With early struggles, Morgan closed out the first round at the ASA Classic with a 210 and seven 12's, which placed him tied for 14th for the tournament, but still in control of the SOY points total. Morgan kicked it into high gear for Saturday's second round, shooting an amazing 221 with 13 12's, which rocketed him back into the top five and earning a spot in the final shoot off for ASA World Title.
"I struggled the first day at the Classic with my yardage and knew I had some work to do," said Morgan. "But I came back and shot one of the best rounds of my life on Saturday, shooting 21-up even with a 5 on a coyote target. God kept me patient when I needed to be and pushed me when I needed to be pushed."
At the outdoor 3-D event, Pro Division contestants shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances that vary in distance up to 50 yards. The five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot-off to decide the winner.
Morgan finished the ASA Classic in fifth place after the final shoot off and took home the 2015 ASA Shooter of the Year title by 16-points.
