S3DA Announces New Shooting Classes

Louisville, KY – Aug. 19, 2015 – Scholastic 3D Archery will be adding new shooting classes for the 2016 season. Shooters will now have the opportunity to shoot in an Open class or an Olympic Recurve class. These new classes are in addition to the previously offered Pins and Traditional classes. these new classes offer more opportunity for S3DA students to transition into college archery programs.

National Director Michael Lundeen is excited for the changes. "We are excited to announce that the S3DA program has garnered so much interest from the various shooting disciplines, that we have added both an open and Olympic recurve class to our lineup. These additions will most certainly have an immediate impact on the number of kids entering S3DA."

When we developed S3DA in 2012 we wanted to make sure our program would encourage a natural progression. In the beginning we decided to only offer the basic bowhunter set-up, known as the Pins Class and Traditional classes in an attempt to keep it simple for our coaches an students," says Jennie Richardson, Executive Director of S3DA. "After 2.5 years and the expansion across the USA we have had a tremendous request for additional classes for students ready to transition to the open division with more advanced equipment and accessories." She also adds, "The most awarding part of these changes S3DA will be completely in line with the Collegiate Division for 3-D and target archery.

S3DA provides 3-D archery opportunities for youth in afterschool settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in their communities. S3DA places special emphasis on archery education, conservation, and bowhunting. Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates in 24 states with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
