Popular Archery Shoot Coming to Volga (IA) Recreation Area Aug. 29-30

FAYETTE, Iowa - Volga River State Recreation Area in northeast Iowa will play host for the first time to hundreds of archers from Iowa and surrounding states August 29 and 30.

Touted as "the best archery shoot in the world," the Rinehart R100 expects to draw between 500 and 800 archers to Volga River State Recreation Area and the surrounding community. Iowa is the last of the 15 Rinehart shoots held April through August around the country.

"We are very excited to host this event at Volga in partnership with our local archery club, Echo Valley Archers," says Jeff Hildebrand, park ranger for the state recreation area. "And it's a great opportunity to showcase the recreation area to a whole new group of visitors.

"Some of our archery club members have been to many of the events in other states and say Iowa's shoot here at Volga is going to blow people away with the scenery and diversity of habitat," adds Hildebrand.

The two courses, one North America and one exotic, together will cover close to two miles in the recreation area and have a total of 100 different life-sized 3D targets to challenge bow hunters and archery enthusiasts.

A small section of the Volga equestrian trail will be closed during the event.
