Gold Tip's Gillingham Wins IBO World Championship

Orem, UT - It was a repeat performance for Veteran Pro Shooter and Gold Tip Pro Staff Manager, Tim Gillingham, as he once again claimed the IBO World Title at the recent IBO World Championship. Gillingham was shooting Ultralight Pro X-cutters for the win. The 2014 IBO World Championship, the last event of the 2014 season, was held at the picturesque Holiday Valley Resort, in Ellicottville, NY August 7-10. Holiday Valley, a change in location from 2013, provided steep inclines and windy conditions for participating shooters. In the end, fellow Gold Tip shooter, Tommy Gomez, who has enjoyed consistent success all year on the IBO circuit, claimed the 3rd place finish at the World Championship and took home the IBO Shooter of the Year title.

The Pro Division of each IBO sanctioned 3-D event features a total of 20 unmarked targets shot over the course of two consecutive days. Contestants shoot each target once per day, scored as 5 (non-vital body), 8, 10, and 11-point rings per target, thus a perfect possible score of 440. Target distances are varied in range out to a maximum of approximately 50 yards. No range finding equipment is allowed at the IBO unmarked event, putting additional pressure on shooters to accurately judge distances. The event's third day presents a final 10-target Shoot Off for the top five scores after the first two rounds of competition.

Right out of the gate on Day 1, it was a tight competition within the men's Pro category. At the end of the first day, Gold Tip shooter, Chance Beaubouef, had a comfortable four point lead heading into Day 2, finishing with 215 with 15 X's. Gomez and Gillingham were close behind, coming in with 211 and 11 X's and 210 and 15 X's, respectively.

On Day 2, the tide began to turn. Gillingham, seemed to fade quickly, with 3 8's within his first 8 targets. Beaubouf and Gomez held the first and second positions, but it remained tight thereafter. Gillingham regrouped and made a late surge to remain in the top five scores. In all, 8 shooters fell within the top five scores, qualifying for the final day's 10-target Shoot Off.

Low scores on the first target of the shoot off sent two of the Pros packing, but Gillingham's 11 brought him within a point of Beaubouef and Gomez. Ultimately, it was Gomez with a comfortable four-point lead heading into the 10th and final target of the Shoot Off, but an errant 5 opened the door for others. Gillingham's 10 on the last target was enough to move him to the top position and claim the title.

"It's been the best season to date in my 20 years of shooting professional archery," said IBO World Champion, Tim Gillingham. "Attention to detail is key when the difference between 1st and 5th place can be a point or two, and this year's success was a direct result of the confidence I have in my equipment."

Also notable for Gold Tip were Art Brown and Scott Price's 2nd and 3rd place finishes, respectively, in the Senior Pro category. Gold Tip's, Samantha Morgan, also had a fantastic showing with her 3rd place finish in the Woman's Pro category.

"Winning his second IBO World Championship in a row is a fantastic accomplishment for our own, Tim Gillingham, and I couldn't be happier for him," said Mitch McKay, Gold Tip's Director of Sales. "In all, this was a great way to cap off another incredibly successful year for our entire Gold Tip Pro Staff and is, again, a testament to the effort we all put into engineering the most consistent arrows on the market!"
