Plant Metallurgist – Springfield, MA

  • Analyze macro and microstructures of both ferrous and nonferrous materials
  • Perform first article metallurgical inspections on all new product components
  • Work with all internal business units as well as external suppliers, providing in-depth technical expertise
  • Develop new or improve upon existing metallurgical processes
  • Provide and manage failure analysis utilizing internal equipment or by seeking external lab assistance
  • Monitor and provide problem solving assistance to the heat treat, forging, and finishing departments
  • Work closely with product engineering with new designs and materials
  • Write technical reports for all levels of the organizational management structure
  • Provide incoming level inspections for all raw material or related parts
  • Assure metallurgical and operating processes are in control and capable of meeting the needs of internal and external clients
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of best industry practices in metallurgy, manufacturing, and quality
  • Perform all forms of NDT
