Buck Taken With Rifle During 2011 Illinois Archery Season Costs $10K

After pleading guilty to a laundry list of charges associated with illegally using a rifle to kill a trophy buck during the 2011 Illinois bow season, Weldon "Jesse" Bean of Kankakee received fines and was assessed restitution totaling $10,000.

Charges included hunting without permission, hunting within 300 yards of a dwelling, illegal possession of a whitetail deer, failure to immediately tag the deer upon kill, illegal transportation of an uncased bow on an ATV and invalid archery deer permit.

Each charge carried a fine of $692 for a total of $4,774. Bean was also assessed $5,226 for the value of the deer. The deer hide, meat and antlers along with Bean's equipment was awarded to District 3 of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, based in Will County.

A co-defendant in the case, Raymond Drazen of St. Anne, Ill., was found guilty of illegally taking deer with a rifle and illegal possession of deer and was fined $250.
