Kentucky S3DA holds Indoor State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – The Kentucky S3DA Indoor State Championship was held at the West Kentucky Archery Complex in Madisonville, Kentucky. The West Kentucky Archery Complex is an 18,000 square foot facility and the largest building dedicated to archery in the state of Kentucky. More than 450 competing archers representing 66 clubs and teams competed with over 1,000 spectators on hand for this event.

Head Coach of Lindsey Wilson College Mike Willis stated, “It is always a pleasure to attend the Kentucky State Championship Tournament. The level of ability that these archers bring each year is amazing. Our archers that have participated in the scholastic program come into the collegiate level with a great amount of knowledge and experience in all venues.”

“It has been an amazing experience for our scholastic club to assist in hosting the state tournament this year. The wealth of knowledge and strategic planning the Kentucky State, Regional Coordinators and their team of volunteers bring to the event was a great insight for us. Stacy made it very easy for our archers, coaches and parents to be involved in all aspects of this tournament,” stated West Kentucky Archery Complex Coach, Steve Rienstra.

Kentucky S3DA State Coordinator Stacy Groce said, “I am always absolutely blown away each year by the talent and level of ability our archers and coaches bring to the State Tournament. As the level of competition continues to steadily increase so does our overall number of competitors. This year we have experienced an overall growth by 25% during our indoor season and expect a larger growth when we transition to the 3D venue.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving
thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
