What’s on My Desk -- Tyson Woods, TWoods Images

I met Tyson at this past summer’s Professional Outdoor Media Association Conference in Kansas. (By the way, I will be the president of POMA in June, 2020 during the Kalispell, MT conference; I hope to see you there.) Tyson and I exchanged cards and pleasantries, as one does during conferences, and I ran across that card while attempting to clear my own workspace. And voila – four months later, I reconnected with him and asked him to show me his office. Isn’t this fun? Well, I think so – enjoy this “What’s on my Desk” with Tyson Woods, of TWoods Images Follow him on Instagram @ TWoodsImages – Michelle Scheuermann, editor, Archery Wire.

His and Hers Desks

As a part-time freelance photographer, my desk is an ever-evolving workstation. My wife and I both own and run businesses and need our own desk space. We are in the process of creating an office/spare bedroom workspace that fits both of our needs in the home. I recently built a desk that would give each of us space to work, keep our projects separate, and keep our view to the outside world.

Camera gear ready to go

I keep my desk space simple since multiple items are often traveling with me for photo shoots. My key items are a MacBook Pro for photo editing and everyday client work, along with several external hard drives. You can almost always count on finding some sort of reading material that piques my interest with photo content nearby. Photo gear can take up a lot of room, so I usually keep it all tucked away in a closet so it doesn’t get banged around. That said, the cameras are always out and ready just in case I need them for those split second opportunities.

Reading materials

It’s not much, but I think simple is better. I’ll spend anywhere from 4-20 hours per week here, depending on the project I’m working on. If needed, I’ll also use breweries and other local spots to get out and focus on getting projects done. As I balance my photography with family, my regular 8-to-5 job, hunting and fishing seasons, and everything else life has going on, my office can go from stationary to travel mode in less than 10 minutes.
